Blooming Roses Program Expands and Welcomes Affiliates

Women with substance abuse issues experience extreme difficulties in re-entering the work force. A job - either one that was previously held or one that she would be qualified to perform following treatment - is often the final step to help break the cycle of addiction. Past histories, however, can create roadblocks to achieving fully productive lives, increasing the chance of relapse and, in some cases, reintroduction to the judicial system.

Blooming Roses, LLC was created as a new for-profit joint venture between First Step Home, Inc. and Cincinnati Concessions and Catering to open new doors for women in recovery. The new company offers a broad range of gifts and promotional products, including chocolates, roasted nuts, flowers and jewelry, as well as catering for corporate and private events, and institutional food services. The online store can be found at www.bloomingrosesstore.com and showcases all the company has to offer with seasonal items available for holiday giving.

As the company grows, more women will be employed as order processors, shippers, bakers, marketing reps and candy makers. They will be trained in computer and other skills required for their growth and success on the job. This unique joint venture has produced more than 10 full-time and part-time positions since it's inception.

Blooming Roses Program Receives High Marks from Office of National Drug Control Policy

In a recent visit by John Waters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the program was reviewed and received high marks for creativity and mission. In fact, chocolates from the project were purchased and sent back to Washington, D.C.

As Blooming Roses continues to grow, select Cincinnati companies are being recruited as additional coe partners to build the project into the future. The project brings women back into the workforce regardless of their pasts and will create funds that will be used to support our vocational education programs, provide scholarships to clients and support the operations of the agency.
